About the LAKMA

The LAKMA, is a project headed by the Gausachs Art Foundation.

The Foundation was established in July 2006 to run cultural and educational projects. It is a, non-profit organization formed in accordance with the Civil Code of the Netherlands with the number KvK358227. In 2007 The Foundation decided to create The LAKMA Project and has destined its efforts and resources for this purposes.

Our main objectives are to brings art and people together for enjoyment, discovery, and learning. We strive to create a place where people of every background can be touched by art. We are committed to exhibitions and programs that will strengthen and sustain our community; as well as, educate and stimulate public interest and enthusiasm for human experience through art. We encourage appreciation of regional cultural and artistic diversity and contribute to awareness of cultural achievements; collaborating to these ends with the national and international community, promote artistic exchange between national, regional, and international institutions, and supporting innovative programs that focus on the visual arts.

Operations

LAKMA is a not-for-profit, charitable exhibiting facility for local, national and international contemporary art. The LAKMA operates with support from mixed sources of revenue, including memberships, sponsors, donations, fundraising, and gallery rentals for exhibitions and events. The LAKMA rents its space to artists at special rates and to other exhibition clients as it does not receive governmental operational funding. Artists are welcome to sell their work and keep all proceeds as the LAKMA does not take any commission on sales. Occasionally LAKMA’s programming committee organizes special exhibitions and events. Applicable submission fees for these shows go toward covering administrative and operational costs. Payment of artist fees for these shows depends on project funding and fundraising. LAKMA encourages artists, collectives and curators to seek exhibition assistance funding for their shows and is able to provide advice on how to apply for grants. For inquiries and to submit proposals for all gallery rentals and exhibition calls, please contact us with your inquiries.

Programming Mandate

LAKMA advocates accessibility to contemporary arts and culture for artists, the community and wider audiences throughout The Netherlands and further afield by providing numerous diverse exhibition and event opportunities within its exhibition spaces. The LAKMA supports the creative freedom of artists by providing an open framework in which to experiment and test out new approaches to artistic practices, exhibition organization and artist-led shows and initiatives. Artist-organized solo and group exhibitions are emphasized, however, exhibition and event proposals are also welcome from curators, collectives, designers, critics, scholars, students, community, literary, musical and cultural groups. LAKMA’s open, multi-disciplinary approach to programming allows for new ideas, perspectives and forms in art and culture to emerge and cross-pollinate, prompting the criticism and generation of knowledge through discourse and debate around parallels and differences in contemporary practices.

The LAKMA maintains accessibility to exhibition opportunities for artists at any stage in their career and working in any media or discipline, including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video, new media, installation and performance. The LAKMA is particularly suited to emerging artists and artist groups looking to gain exhibition experience and host their own exhibitions, and offers professional exhibition mentorship and support including promotion and installation assistance.
